Move Over Law Reminder For Motorists

The Rome Police Department is reminding motorists that the NY State "Move OVer Law" does apply to roadways in the City of Rome.  Drivers traveling in the same direction must exercise due care, to include moving from a lane immediately adjacent, and reducing speed, to avoid colliding with a vehicle parked, stopped, or standing on the shoulder or any portion of the highway when the vehicle is an authorized emergency vehilce (Police, Fire, Ambulance), tow truck, sanitation truck or maintenance vehicle with its lights flashing. This law does apply to the roadways in the City of Rome and a conviction of this violation carries a penalty of a fine and/or a jail sentence of up to 15 days.
