Officer Matthew Heinrich - October Officer of the Month

The Rome Police Department is pleased to announce that Officer Matthew Heinrich has been named the Officer of the Month for October.

On Friday, October 11th at about 1:45 AM, Officer Heinrich responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the Smokers Choice store located at 1790 Black River Blvd. Upon arrival, he confronted a male suspect leaving the store through glass doors at the entrance to the store. A vehicle was pulled up to the doors and had broken much of the glass out. The suspect attempted to flee the scene by entering the vehicle. Officer Heinrich then removed the suspect from the vehicle while calling for assistance. A struggle ensued, but Heinrich was able to take the suspect in to custody.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had intentionally driven his vehicle in to the glass doors of the building for the purpose of committing a burglary. Approximately $600.00 worth of merchandise was located in the suspects vehicle and scattered on the ground.

Officer Heinrich is also recognized for his attention to duty and his proactive approach with vehicle and traffic law stops and his self-initiated interactions with the community.

His attention to detail and dedication to duty are worthy of this recognition.

He joined the department in May of 2018.
