Commissioner of Public Safety
The Commissioner of Public Safety is the head of the Department of Public Safety and is appointed by the Mayor of the City of Rome. As Commissioner of Public Safety, I am empowered to enact, modify, and repeal the orders, rules and regulations of general discipline affecting the Rome Police and Fire Departments. It is also my responsibility to make all appointments, promotions and to change the status of the officers and members of the Police and Fire Departments in accordance with the provisions of civil service law of the State of New York.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent, well trained, professional and motivated police and fire department. The members accept their responsibility of preserving the life and property in our community and protecting and serving all of us.

Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers Wanted Person of the Week
The Rome City Police Department and Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers are asking for the public's help in locating this week's Wanted Person of the Week.
According to Rome Police, 30-year-old Dusty J. Derocha is wanted by the Rome Police Department on a three different Arrest Warrants issued from the City of Rome Court. One of the Arrest Warrants is for a felony charge of Robbery in the Third Degree. The other two Arrest Warrants are for Misdemeanor charges including Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree. These charges are in regards to several theft incidents that occurred in the City of Rome.
Police say, Derocha is also wanted on two Bench Warrants issued from the Rome City Court for violating conditions in regards to past charges. In addition, Derocha is showing as having warrants with the Manlius Police Department, the New Hartford Police Department, and the Cicero Town Police Department. Derocha has no known address but is believed to be in the Rome or Utica area.
